September Road Trip - Sainte Genevieve Wine Country

Yes, you can take the Fool out of the City.  And a perfect place to take him this month is located about an hour and a half south of St. Louis in the foothills of the Ozark Mountains.  Sainte Genevieve and the surrounding area is home to almost twenty vinyards and tasting rooms.  A viticultural region for over 300 years, when French settlers found the countryside to be ideal for growing grapes, history, tradition, cool breezes on inviting porches, and plain tasty wines come together to make for one heck of a nice September Day Trip.  Or stay in one of the many inns or bed and breakfasts and make a vacation out of it.

Greek Festival, September 4-6, 2010

A Labor Day weekend tradition, The Greek Festival at Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church at Forest Park Parkway at Kingshighway will be packed with St. Louisians enjoying the sights, sounds, smells, and, yes, of course, tastes of Greece.  Named the Best Local Festival by St.Louis Magazne and a perennial favorite of our own CityFool, the Greek Festival is the place to experience authentic roasted lamb with pita, spinach pie, moussaka, and pastitsio, and to browse a marketplace wth treasures from the Greek Islands.  Bring home a box of homemade pastries, and experience the Hellenic deliciousness all week!

Festival of Nations, August 28-29, 2010

The CityFool has begun counting down the hours to this Saturday when the Festival of Nations begins in Tower Grove Park (South City).  Yes, he will partake in the over 40 ethnic food booths. Bosnian cevapi on a homemade roll with mounds of raw onion.  Argentinian empanadas stuffed with everything imaginable.  Roasted meats, rice pilafs, baklava, dumplings, mmm, yes.  Yes, he will eat.  Afterwards he can stroll past the stages, watching Irish dancers or hearing African drums, on his way to the Village Green where just observing the ethnic dance lessons is sure to burn calories. And he can walk through the World Bazaar, boasting over 50 ethnic booths offering gifts from around the globe right here in our own city.  And maybe, just maybe, this year he'll be invited to participate in the Highland Games feats of strength.  The CityFool will be there this weekend, August 28 and 29.  Will you?
